Kitty Ear Tutorial

My dear bloggy friend Nikka was asking how to make kitty ears....like the ears on this hat.
So I thought why not make a tutorial! It is really easy, and works up super fast.. You can use any yarn or size hook it will just change the size of your ears. For this tutorial I used a size 4 hook and worsted weight yarn.

Kitty Ear Tutorial
  • 7sc in magic ring (I use a magic ring because you can pull the ring closed tight one you have done your single crochet and it looks neater)
  •  Then do 25 sc around
  •  (2sc in next st,sc,sc,sc,sc,2sc in next st) x 2
  • Then do 17 sc around
  • (2sc in next st,sc,sc,2sc in next st) x3
  • Then do 50 sc around
  • Fo and leave a long tail, use the tail to sew your ears to a hat...headband or on an ami!
So go on grab your hooks and get crafty!! I hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend filled family and treats! I am gonna have a full house...my Mother in law is on her way here for the weekend right now and should arrive within a few hours!

Monster Pattern

Hello, I don't know about you but sometimes I feel like just being a lazy crocheter....and creating a fairly easy pattern. So I whipped up this little gal in a couple days, and thought I would share it with you.
It would of just been one day to complete her but I started her really late a few nights ago and was to sleepy to finish her. Plus I decided to give her hair as well which was a little time consuming.

You can enter my draw for a chance to win her in my previous post....here!Okay on with the pattern!Oh wait...actually I wanted to share how my notes look when I am creating an ami, now there are not many notes because this is a very basic pattern but here is a quick pic of my process when making an ami.
For this pattern you can use scrap yarn ...I used part of a green ball of worsted weight yarn and a 3.5 hook. But really you can use any yarn or hook the only thing that will happen is the size of your critter will change.

Pattern Abbreviations
ch~chain
sc~single crochet
hdc~half double crochet
dc~double crochet
sl st~slip stitch
sk st~skip stitch
invdec~invisible decrease
fo~fasten off

Monster Pattern~ Body and Legs:
Ch 28
Sc in second ch from hook and the remaining chains
Ch 1 turn sc across (do this round 5 times in total)
Now place your stitch marker, you will now be single crocheting around the entire piece like single crocheting in the round
Sc around the entire piece (do this round 20 times in totaln and move the st marker up with every round)
Now sc to the middle of the back of you ami, you can choose either side that is up to you.
Skip the next 33 st, and then you will sc in the next 32 stitches (this will be the first leg)
Now sc x 120, place your stitch marker
(Invedec, skip st) for the entire round
Invdec around, fo and sew in ends

Second Leg
Insert hook and pull up loop on other side of the body...ride beside the leg you were just working on
Then sc x 31 around
Sc x 120, place your st marker
(invdec,skip st) around
Invdec around, fo and weave in ends

Face
Ch 24
Sc in second ch from hook and remaining chains
Ch 1, turn, sc across (do this round 11 times in total)
Fo leave a long tail

Arms (make 2)
6 sc in ring
2 sc in each st
Sc x 35
(sc, ivdec) x 6, fo leave a long tail

Now you sew the face on your stuffie....weave in all ends stuff him. Add your eyes, maybe some hair a bow or flower or whatever you want. This is a basic pattern but could be changed into maybe a kitty just add ears. It's nice and easy when you don't feel like doing a big pattern. I hope you like her.

Who...who...wants a free pattern????

I don't have a wee little one but I find the little cocoons popping up everywhere are simply adorable!!!!!! They are so sweet and incredibly easy to make! Seriously it is so easy....and they work up really quick if you use super chunky yarn and a large hook! So I decided to whip up this little number and decided to share the pattern just incase anyone wants to make one.

Pattern Abbreviations
ch~chain
sc~single crochet
hdc~half double crochet
dc~double crochet
sl st~slip stitch
sk st~skip stitch
invdec~invisible decrease
fo~fasten off

Baby Owl Cocoon and Hat Set
I used really chunky yarn a big value ball from Wal*Mart and a 6mm crochet hook for this pattern.
DC=double crochet
SL ST=slip stitch
CH=chain
Reverse sc (also known as the crab stitch).
*Crochet Spot has a wonderful tutorial for the revserse single crochet....click here!*
Cocoon
  • 10dc in ring, sl st closed (sl st close at the end of every round thru the entire pattern).
  • Ch2, dc in same st (do this at the beginning of every round, this will give your cocoon a nice clean seam) then 2dc in each st around.
(Seam)
  • Dc in each st around (Do this round twice).
  • Dc, dc, dc, 2dc in next st. (for entire round)
  • Dc, dc, 2dc in next st. (for entire round)
  • Dc in each st (Do this round 4 times).
  • Do 10dc around then do 2dc in next st. (for entire round)
  • Dc around (Do this round 23  times).
  • Reverse sc around (also known as the crab st).
Your work should measure about 12” wide and 17” long….and since I used chunky yarn it had some give and was a bit stretchy and oh so soft, perfect for swaddling your new bundle of joy!
Owl Hat
  • 10 dc in ring, sl st closed.
  • *Ch 2, 1 dc in same st (do this at the beginning of each round)*, 2dc in each st around.
  • *Dc, 2dc in next st*(for entire round)
  • *Dc, dc, 2dc in next st* (for entire round)
  • Dc in each st(do this round 10 times)
  • Reverse sc(also known as the crab st), fo and weave in ends.
Eyes (Make 2)
  • With black yarn do 7sc in ring
  • 2 sc in each st around
  • Switch to blue, do 2sc in each st around
  • Switch to white, sc, 2sc in next st. (for entire round)
  • Sc around, fo and leave a long tail
Beak
  • Ch 7
  • Sc in second ch from hook and the remaining ch's
  • Ch 1 turn, sc across
  • Ch 1, turn, invdec,sc, sc, invdec
  • Ch 1, turn, sc across
  • Ch 1, turn, invdec, invdec, fo leave a long tail
Ears (Make 2)
  • 6sc in ring
  • 2sc in each st
  • sc around (do this round 3 times), fo leave a long tail
Now you take your eyes, ears, and beak and sew them on the hat, weave in your ends and that's it! And no I don’t have a wee one on the way….my nest is nearly empty my one and only is a few short years from leaving home. Yikes....she graduates next  year, man that makes me feel old typing that! I made this little set for an upcoming craft fair the end of May! This time I will make sure to take pictures! The last sale was my first craft fair and I was SWAMPED! Now I will be more prepared :) I hope you like the pattern! Please email me if you have any questions.
